Located on the northern island of Japan, Hokkaido is known for its snowy mountains and outdoor adventures.
Our first destination was Niseko, one of the world’s best ski resorts.
Heavy snowfall that week allowed us to reach the mountain peak — usually closed — after a long hike in ski boots carrying our skis.
We got stuck in meter-deep powder, and it took half an hour to get out!

Niseko’s low elevation helps prevent altitude sickness and allows for a cozy village at the mountain’s base.
We were lucky to celebrate New Year’s Eve there, watching fireworks explode over the snowy peaks.

After Niseko, we visited Sapporo and Otaru, trying famous cheesecakes, exploring canals, and dining in Ramen Alley — only for the shop to close just before our turn!
Our return flight was delayed more than 24 hours due to snowstorms — a test of patience and family bonding.
Despite the chaos, Hokkaido remains one of the most memorable trips we’ve taken.
